Lovely to meet you! My name is Jenny Collins (she/her). I am a yoga teacher based in Beeston near Nottingham in the UK specialising in making yoga as inclusive and accessible as possible to anyone who wants to experience it. As well as being a yoga teacher I am a primary, medical needs and Special Needs teacher with more than 25 years experience. Teaching is in my soul and what I love to do. The opportunity to combine this with sharing the yoga practices that have helped me so much brings me real joy.
I started to practise yoga myself through a 'yoga fusion' class at my gym thinking I wanted to do it to stretch out a bit after intense exercise. I loved the movement, but my favourite part (when most people walked out to get to their next class) was the Savasava at the end- one of the few times I switched off in the week. I also realised that yoga wasn't really just the 'pose part' (asana) but also breathing, relaxation, mindfulness and an inclusive philosphy.
I trained initially in Children's and SEND yoga to use as part of my 'real-life job' and loved the deep dive so much that after only teaching children's yoga for a while, I followed this up with my 200 Hour qualification, taught by the fabulous Kirby Markham @kirbycorewellness. I was one of the oldest and 'least bendy' on my training but met such an amazing and diverse group of people and discovered that teaching grown ups was just as much fun!
I absolutely love learning in its own right but also to ensure that I can teach as many people as possible who could benefit from the gift that is yoga. This led me to further specialist training with the Accessible Yoga School with the inspirational Jivana Heyman and an amazing faculty of teachers and with Shawnee Thorton Hardy of Asanas for Autism and Special Needs.
I love teaching a diverse range of yoga whether it is jumping around being a yoga superhero or going on a yoga jungle adventure (this is mostly when I teach children- but never say never if that sounds like you as an adult!); group classes including gentle flow classes, chair classes, integrated classes-where you can choose chair, seated, standing and bespoke 1:1 or small group sessions in person or online. I also teach in schools or anywhere in the wider community. I love building and being part of a lovely little yoga community based in Beeston Rylands where I teach all welcome flow classes. BOOK HERE
Outside of yoga my happy place involves being in nature whether in my garden, by the canal in Beeston or ideally up a hill with more sheep than people in the Yorkshire Dales. I share my house in Beeston Rylands with my 9 year old rescue saluki-greyhound cross Polly; my teeny but feisty rescue cat Jess and my partner Lee. I love reading and music- I play the piano, clarinet and saxophone and sing badly but with gusto!
